AN EMMY NOMINATION
Greetings my friends! Well – I have some pretty big news to share with you all. You know in life you sometimes have really-amazing-news and then you occasionally have ridiculously-amazingly-good-news-that-make-your-heart-want-to-burst. Well – this is the latter.
FIRECRACKER RUBBED GRILLED TUNA
Our long awaited TV series GRILLAÐ – which basically means, “Barbequing” aired last night here in Iceland. At the same time we celebrated the publication of a book that carries the same name and features the recipes from the show – plus many more.
APPS, COCKTAILS, BBQ AND RESTAURANT RECIPES
I know things have been a little bit slow here at The Basic Cookbook but I blame that on April and my stupid health concept… Just kidding… but all jokes aside things have been kind of crazy here in the Bahamas.
THE BBQ FEAST
It´s been two amazing weeks of shooting the next batch of video tutorials! The theme this time was BBQ! So last night we had some ribs, grilled chicken, some grilled apricots (I think) with mascarpone cream…
THE PARIS VIDEO
I just remembered this morning that I never shared the video from Paris. It´s really beautiful and well done I have to say (remember – I was at home with the kids :).
But here it is – I hope you watch it and hey – maybe we can all go next year…

PARIS: THE ROUND UP
As I´ve probably mentioned before the Paris trip was amazing. Kind of hard for me to describe it accordingly since I wasn´t there but looking at these pictures makes me very proud. They are taken during Volli´s cooking demonstration where he made shredded cod – an amazing home-style dish that me and the kids love and it´s so easy to make that even I have mastered it. I´ll definitely post that recipe this week.
PARIS: DAY THREE
According to the chef Paris has been a blast: Interesting events, amazing people from all over the world, great food and new and exciting things everywhere you look – not to mention fabulous cookbooks.
PARIS: DAY TWO
The second day of the Paris Cookbook Fair sailed by smoothly. The whole day was dedicated to setting up the booth, getting familiar with the area and so on. Oh yes – and of course the grand opening party during the evening. Needless to say everything went well, they met up with some old friends [...]
PARIS: DAY ONE
So it´s been a long trip from the Bahamas to Paris. It might sound simple enough but this was the route: Bahamas, Miami, New York, Reykjavik, London, Paris! That´s right – only 4 pit stops on the way. The reason is that things needed to be picked up on the way – such as the first copy of the book – which was being printed in Iceland.
BONJOUR PARIS!!!
I am green with envy. Right now as we speak Volli and Nunni have just arrived to Paris (yes, that´s Paris – France). The reason is the Paris Cookbook Fair where Volli´s new book, Silver of the Sea, is nominated as the Best Cookbook of the year and as the Best Chef Cookbook.
SILVER OF THE SEA – THE BOOK IS READY!!!
Finally – the long awaited moment is just about to arrive. Tomorrow Volli will get the first copy of Silver of the Sea! The feeling is amazing and – well – I can´t even describe it.
DELICIOUS ICELAND – EPISODE ONE
For the past years we´ve been working on the Delicious Iceland project. First came the book in 2006 and last year we finally completed the TV series.

I have pretty exciting news this morning:
Next week we will start shooting the next batch of the video tutorials! That means a whole week of long and exciting days and a overload of great food. I can´t wait.
The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards
In 2006 Chef Volli (aka my tall husband) published his first book. It had been a long process and it took him almost ten years to finish it – mostly due to the fact that he had at the time moved to the Bahamas and the book centers around Iceland…
