CRÉME BRULÉE

CRÉME BRULÉE

My and Volli have one thing in common (well, actually a few others but bear with me): we like simple food – but for very different reasons. Volli likes things to be straight forward which is kind of how he is but me… well I just lack the skill to create anything complicated in the kitchen – so the simpler the better.

GRILLED BEEF & THAI-NOODLE SALAD

GRILLED BEEF & THAI-NOODLE SALAD

I´m pretty sure that the last ten days have not been as skinny jeans friendly and I thought the would. There I was – planning my alone time …

TANDOORI CHICKEN WITH MANGO CHUTNEY

TANDOORI CHICKEN WITH MANGO CHUTNEY

I always admire people who can look inside a seemingly empty fridge, pull out a few jars of this and that and within minutes they have made something amazing. It was pretty much like that on our first date.

PARIS: DAY THREE

PARIS: DAY THREE

According to the chef Paris has been a blast: Interesting events, amazing people from all over the world, great food and new and exciting things everywhere you look – not to mention fabulous cookbooks.

MY WEEKEND INDULGENCE: WATERMELON BLOODY MARY

MY WEEKEND INDULGENCE: WATERMELON BLOODY MARY

It´s Saturday and it goes without saying that I´m not in Paris! That wont stop me from enjoying life to the fullest so I dug up this drink recipe that I love. It is a fun and simple twist to the original Bloody Mary and I highly recommend it…

PARIS: DAY TWO

PARIS: DAY TWO

The second day of the Paris Cookbook Fair sailed by smoothly. The whole day was dedicated to setting up the booth, getting familiar with the area and so on. Oh yes – and of course the grand opening party during the evening. Needless to say everything went well, they met up with some old friends [...]

PARIS: DAY ONE

PARIS: DAY ONE

So it´s been a long trip from the Bahamas to Paris. It might sound simple enough but this was the route: Bahamas, Miami, New York, Reykjavik, London, Paris! That´s right – only 4 pit stops on the way. The reason is that things needed to be picked up on the way – such as the first copy of the book – which was being printed in Iceland.

BONJOUR PARIS!!!

BONJOUR PARIS!!!

I am green with envy. Right now as we speak Volli and Nunni have just arrived to Paris (yes, that´s Paris – France). The reason is the Paris Cookbook Fair where Volli´s new book, Silver of the Sea, is nominated as the Best Cookbook of the year and as the Best Chef Cookbook.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE DESSERTS OF ALL TIME: CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE

ONE OF MY FAVORITE DESSERTS OF ALL TIME: CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE

I love chocolate! It´s as simple as that and this dessert is just the perfect dessert for the chocoholic that I am. The great thing about it is that it is really easy to make and when you pour the chocolate fudge in the middle … it´s pure heaven.

SILVER OF THE SEA – THE BOOK IS READY!!!

SILVER OF THE SEA – THE BOOK IS READY!!!

Finally – the long awaited moment is just about to arrive. Tomorrow Volli will get the first copy of Silver of the Sea! The feeling is amazing and – well – I can´t even describe it.

THE HIATUS IS OVER!

THE HIATUS IS OVER!

For the past month or so Volli has been extremely absent. He has been cooped up inside his office writing recipes like there´s no tomorrow. Me and the kids have seen him briefly in the mornings – for about 7 minutes and maybe if we´re really lucky he´ll come home for dinner for half an hour or so.

LOBSTER CAKE ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON

LOBSTER CAKE ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Every once in a while we do what I call fancy food – which is basically something that Volli would serve at the restaurant. At home we are definitely more home style and rustic but ever so often Volli decides to do something spectacular.

SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS…

SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS…

Every once in a while I like to step out of my comfort zone. Not too much though but it is essential for my self growth I´d like to think. A few months ago my cooking skills were quite limited to say the least. I had mastered two recipes and baby food.

CREPES WITH BLUEBERRIES

CREPES WITH BLUEBERRIES

Yesterday I found myself in desperate need for something sweet and delicious. It was pure greed since I already had some soup leftovers for lunch and there would be spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. So – it was definitely just greed but against my better judgment I decided to whip up some crepes. The crepes in this recipe are not the traditional American ones. Instead they are more European – thin and almost the size of a dinner plate.

GUILTY PLEASURE: MY MERINGUE DESSERT

GUILTY PLEASURE: MY MERINGUE DESSERT

I went through a stage a few years ago where I got obsessed with meringue. It all started shortly after my Hollandaise obsession reached it´s high point and my fridge was filled with egg whites that I had no idea what to do with. So I thought I´d give meringue a try.

SILVER OF THE SEA – THE DEADLINE APPROACHES

SILVER OF THE SEA – THE DEADLINE APPROACHES

The weekend passed quietly but here the madness was ongoing. We are slowly approaching our deadline for the new book and we are working our butt’s off. We were supposed to be finished (isn’t it always like that) but there are always some last minute details. The book is quite amazing I have to say (and I’m allowed to brag because even though I would love to take some credit for the book it is solely Volli´s idea).

IT´S FRIDAY – WHICH MEANS IT´S TIME FOR CHOCOLATE…

IT´S FRIDAY – WHICH MEANS IT´S TIME FOR CHOCOLATE…

These angels are just about the easiest thing you can make and I sometimes call them the last temptation. I don´t know why – but I like the sound of it. Chocolate is a funny thing. Most people like it but we also have very different ways of enjoying it.

FOOD FANTASIES: BEEF RIB EYE BAGUETTE SANDWICH

FOOD FANTASIES: BEEF RIB EYE BAGUETTE SANDWICH

I sometimes have weird food-flashbacks. Like when you hear a certain song and instantly go back to the place it reminds you of. Well, my food-flashbacks are similar in a way. I look at a picture or in some cases just an ingredient and I´m transferred back to the day when I ate it. This happened to me this morning when I saw this picture and I believe that I just have to make it today!

DELICIOUS ICELAND – EPISODE ONE

DELICIOUS ICELAND – EPISODE ONE

For the past years we´ve been working on the Delicious Iceland project. First came the book in 2006 and last year we finally completed the TV series.

COMFORT SOUP AT IT´S BEST!

COMFORT SOUP AT IT´S BEST!

So – understandably I´m not going to give you that recipe but when I was browsing through some of Volli´s recipe I found this one and almost kicked myself for not having thought of it yesterday. This soup is AMAZING and super-easy to make.
