HEALTHY HEALTHY VEGGIE PITA
It´s officially April – which in this household will be dedicated to our health. My goal is to shed those six pounds that I´m still carrying around since giving birth to our daughter eight months ago.
SMOKED SALMON & FINGERLINGS POTATOES
Oh yes! It´s time for some fancy Sunday finger food – mostly because of all the dill I have. I keep a vegetable garden that I just love although you can´t really tell. I have a few banana trees…
GINGER CHICKEN SATAY WITH PEANUT SAUCE
I remember the first time I heard of Asian fish sauce. I thought it was some sort of yummy gravy – and couldn’t believe my luck. See – I love gravy more than anything – literally – well – almost! So imagine my surprise when the whole house stank like a – well I´m not going to say it – but it stank bad.
TANDOORI CHICKEN WITH MANGO CHUTNEY
I always admire people who can look inside a seemingly empty fridge, pull out a few jars of this and that and within minutes they have made something amazing. It was pretty much like that on our first date.
PARIS: DAY THREE
According to the chef Paris has been a blast: Interesting events, amazing people from all over the world, great food and new and exciting things everywhere you look – not to mention fabulous cookbooks.
SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS…
Every once in a while I like to step out of my comfort zone. Not too much though but it is essential for my self growth I´d like to think. A few months ago my cooking skills were quite limited to say the least. I had mastered two recipes and baby food.
CREPES WITH BLUEBERRIES
Yesterday I found myself in desperate need for something sweet and delicious. It was pure greed since I already had some soup leftovers for lunch and there would be spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. So – it was definitely just greed but against my better judgment I decided to whip up some crepes. The crepes in this recipe are not the traditional American ones. Instead they are more European – thin and almost the size of a dinner plate.
GUILTY PLEASURE: MY MERINGUE DESSERT
I went through a stage a few years ago where I got obsessed with meringue. It all started shortly after my Hollandaise obsession reached it´s high point and my fridge was filled with egg whites that I had no idea what to do with. So I thought I´d give meringue a try.
SILVER OF THE SEA – THE DEADLINE APPROACHES
The weekend passed quietly but here the madness was ongoing. We are slowly approaching our deadline for the new book and we are working our butt’s off. We were supposed to be finished (isn’t it always like that) but there are always some last minute details. The book is quite amazing I have to say (and I’m allowed to brag because even though I would love to take some credit for the book it is solely Volli´s idea).
IT´S FRIDAY – WHICH MEANS IT´S TIME FOR CHOCOLATE…
These angels are just about the easiest thing you can make and I sometimes call them the last temptation. I don´t know why – but I like the sound of it. Chocolate is a funny thing. Most people like it but we also have very different ways of enjoying it.
FOOD FANTASIES: BEEF RIB EYE BAGUETTE SANDWICH
I sometimes have weird food-flashbacks. Like when you hear a certain song and instantly go back to the place it reminds you of. Well, my food-flashbacks are similar in a way. I look at a picture or in some cases just an ingredient and I´m transferred back to the day when I ate it. This happened to me this morning when I saw this picture and I believe that I just have to make it today!
DELICIOUS ICELAND – EPISODE ONE
For the past years we´ve been working on the Delicious Iceland project. First came the book in 2006 and last year we finally completed the TV series.
COMFORT SOUP AT IT´S BEST!
So – understandably I´m not going to give you that recipe but when I was browsing through some of Volli´s recipe I found this one and almost kicked myself for not having thought of it yesterday. This soup is AMAZING and super-easy to make.
MY FAVORITE MAC AND CHEESE
Growing up on a small island – far far away from so many things that I take for granted today – I never had the pleasure of tasting macaroni and cheese. For me it was just TV food – something magical that everybody ate on TV.
GETTING READY FOR THE NEW VIDEO TUTORIALS
I have pretty exciting news this morning:
Next week we will start shooting the next batch of the video tutorials! That means a whole week of long and exciting days and a overload of great food. I can´t wait.
THE EASIEST BREAD IN THE WORLD
So… the thing about being married to a chef is that people expect you to be some sort of a culinary genius to. Well – I’m not. A few years ago I could hardly boil rice and one of the biggest embarrassments in my life is when I tried to channel my inner Nigella and cook some pork for my family.
Back in the Bahamas
Volli came home yesterday and I think without a doubt that the one happiest to have him back was our son Baldvin. He had been talking about his homecoming for days and literally counting the minutes. Unfortunately Volli made the mistake of entering the house holding his present in his hand: a really cool pirate ship that was sure to be a hit.
The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards
In 2006 Chef Volli (aka my tall husband) published his first book. It had been a long process and it took him almost ten years to finish it – mostly due to the fact that he had at the time moved to the Bahamas and the book centers around Iceland…
Apologizes and the Rhubarb Granita
I apologize for my long absence (and I know that in cyber-world it´s the biggest NO-NO of them all). I´ve been busy working on the website – or pretending to by shopping around for something fresh and new…
What´s new? Oh we have news!
Ohh wow – this is my new news section. Well I guess that the first order of business is to tell you that now we have a news section where we can post everything that we find interesting and newsworthy. Will it clash with the blog section? Sure – but I´m slowly trying to figure [...]
